Community Buyout Update

We released our first newsletter in April 2014 and recently followed this up with our second update in June 2014. Further to those newsletters, the information in the June Newsletter is shown here.

On the 18th January 2014 a successful Public Meeting was held in the Village Hall to introduce the idea of our community registering an expression of interest in a community buyout in intiative if the Hopetoun Estate decide to put the land in and around Leadhills up for sale.

What we have done so far:

A steering group to take this further was formed on 26th January 2014 at an open meeting.

  • We collected over 100 forms of support from members of the community who, in principle, would support a community buyout of land in and around Leadhills.
  • We investigated what exactly needs to be done, and how, in order for the community to register an expression of interest in Estate-owned land in and around Leadhills.

What we will do next:

  • We will liaise with the Registers of Scotand to obtain an accurate map of the land owned by the Estate in and around Leadhills. This information is needed in order to register a valid expression of interest on the estate’s land. This is a complex task, which is likely to take at least half a year to be completed.

To keep up to date, please return to this website where meeting dates and other useful information will be published periodically.

At around the same time as the newsletter was published the formation the Leadhills Community Company Limited and election of Board members has been successfully completed. More information to come soon on this site.
